How Do We Matter?

Some of us may have asked GOD at some point to help us matter to others. Many of us would like to matter to others at some point in our lives. We do not want to be the kind of person who meets other people and it does not cause a ripple in the pond, instead we want to be the rock that gets thrown into the pond making ripples that others can count as they go out.

As children, many of us may have experienced throwing rocks in the pond to make rings known as ripples, and as the ripples formed we began counting them to see how many we actually formed.

There were different ways to make these ripples with rocks. We could skip the rock across the pond to form rings or ripples, or we could throw the rock as high as we could to make the rock drop straight down to form these rings or ripples.

This is generally a contest to see who can form the most rings. In life these ring patterns are the things that make us matter, because we are needed in order to form them. This should be very important to all of us.

The Given Requirement

There is a scripture saying that GOD will open up the windows of Heaven and pour out Blessings that we do not have room enough to receive. Why would GOD do this? Well, I am glad you asked.

In my opinion GOD does things for us by sharing His Love with us, and if He will open up the windows of Heaven and pour out Blessings that we do not have room enough to receive, we should be sharing the overflow, reciprocating what has been done for us by sharing the overflow with someone else.

There is also another scripture saying, To whom much is given, much is required.

How about, do unto others as you will have them do unto you.

These are just things in life that we learn along the way. If we matter to people, all of these become a real possibility.

We can’t ask for the Ying without the Yang, we can’t ask for things without the responsibilities that comes with them.

We should not expect GOD to Bless us without a requirement along the way. There are a number of us who has people constantly pulling us into every direction except loose.

Sharing

When we share with others, this most definitely causes us to matter to those people, not only do we matter, but we are becoming positive examples of how we can matter in the lives of others.

It should be our duty to make an impact in the lives of others in positive ways as often as we possibly can. If this is one of our prayers GOD will allow us to receive this.

When we do things for the least of them, it is like we are doing these things on GOD’s behalf. In other words when we are doing things for the less fortunate, we are doing GOD’s work, and He will Bless us for doing so.

The Less Fortunate Road

There will be many times in our lives that we will come in contact with someone who can use the positive impact we have to give in their lives. We will come in contact with someone who doesn’t quite know which way to go, and because we have been down that dirty dark road before, we will be able to assist in a positive, impactful way.

Making A Positive Impact

Lou Dantzler, Founder of LA’s Challengers Boys & Girls Club, started with twelve boys in 1968 and grew into a nationally acclaimed organization that has served more than 34,000 young people.

Eric Keith Davis, a former American Center Fielder for several Major League Baseball Teams, most notably the Cincinnati Reds, to which he owes his nickname Eric the Red; was once one of the members of Lou Dantzler’s original “Pick-up Truck Recreation Center.” Eric Davis, had spent many hours at the Challengers Boys & Girls Club in Los Angeles, CA. learning lessons that helped to prepare him for a successful professional baseball career.

When Lou Dantzler, Founder of LA’s Challengers Boys & Girls Club, passed away, he left a huge imprint and legacy in the lives of, at a minimum, tens of thousands of people.

Talking about making a positive impact in people’s lives.

We all should want to make some sort of positive imprint in the lives of those around us. As we walk through life, we are making footprints in the sand.

We should want our footprints to be so deep, that after we pass away, people can still see where we once walked, and we will still be able to show them the way, even after we are gone, we will still have a positive effect in the lives of others, turning boys into men, turning girls into women.

We should want to make such a positive impact in the lives of others that it will take several hundred sandstorms to erase our footprints in life.

The Dash

When we pass away, our tombstone generally has our

Date of Birth – Date of Death.

Listed on it.

A number of us might think the most important date on our tombstone is our birthday, or the date of our death. Actually the thing we celebrate when a person passes away is the life they lived.

The most important thing on our tombstones is that Dash in the middle of our birth date and death date.

What did we do while we were alive with the blood running warm in our veins?

The Dash might be the smallest thing on our tombstones, yet it is the most important thing.

Let us wake up and allow our Dash to make a positive, impactful, imprint in the lives of those we come in contact with.

  1. Hi Jerry! Thank you so much for raising that question, especially at a time when we are, quite all, confined at home. I must say, I feel useless.

I registered to a website that is a platform allowing nurses and doctors to have their shopping done while they are at work. That is, I believe, the only thing I can do. Take care.

    1. Thank you for reading and commenting on this post. You are most certainly welcome for the raising of this question. Thank you again for your comment.

      Blessings To You My Friend!

  2. Hey Jerry,

Really nice thought provoking post you have written. I loved that diagram with the “ikalgi” in the middle. It made me think about each 4 quadrants in terms of my life.

I have been dealing with a lot of anxiety and fear and was not always like this, In fact, I was quite the opposite. Now I am trying to rewire my thinking so that I am thinking and acting without fear and anxiety. I believe this boils down to one of your paragraphs. We have to share.

The bible talks about faith, hope and charity but charity being the most important because it is how we give to others that is the most important thing.

Thank you for the encouraging post.

    1. Hello,

Thank you for committing a portion of your time to read, comment, and considering this a really nice, thought provoking post that I have written.

I pray that GOD will release healing virtue upon your anxieties and cast out your fears, Amen.

When the Holy Bible reference Charity, it is referenced as Love, which is the greatest of all…. You are most certainly welcome for the words of encouragement.

Thank you again for utilizing a portion of your time for the reading and commenting on this post.

      Stay blessed and stay safe!

  3. Regardless of religion, race, sexuality, profession, what we give, what we don’t give, we all matter and that should be said more often. In the eyes of God we’re all the same. Just because a person gives more than some other person doesn’t mean that they don’t matter.

We’re all worth love, respect and appreciation no matter the circumstances.

  4. Hi Jerry,

Thanks for reminding us that as much as we need we are needed to give. God wants to use us to perform His miracles but if we do not obey then we will not see His miracles happening.

Thus in most cases when people are testifying about what God has done in their lives, there will always be someone involved for the miracle to be achievable.

    Thanks very much

    1. Hello,

You are welcome for the reminder that as much as we need we are needed to give. I would prefer to be used as one of GOD’s Vessels through positive works, however, there has been many who has been used as vessels through negative works.

In this life, I feel that we should try to the best of our abilities, to turn negative situations into positive experiences “Seeing the Good in the bad”.

Thank you very much for your comments, and you are welcome for this shared information.

Warm Regards To You My Friend!

  5. Hi Jerry,

I fully agree with you, in God we do matter. God will always use one of us to perform His miracles, thus if we obey His ways.

Therefore we need to play our role to the fullest for us to see God’s miracles happening on earth. We do really matter in His plans. We are in every part of of His plans. We really need to consider that and come into party when it comes to His ways.

We cannot just expect to receive and give nothing in return. It is a story of life:

    GIVE AND TAKE!

The same situation explains how we could matter to people in life, and your explanation of this, is what is really breathtaking.
